This morning we were visited by  Catherine Henke, an artist that had born in Switzerland but lives in Montemor-o-Novo for a long time. For this reason she has a special  inshight in this landscape.
She left us a book with some of her artwork and a text written by Teresa.

Here are some examples present in her book.

What is told by the Landscape?

The Spirit of the Place.

Space is infinite and therefore unfathomable. Place is an anchor in space, giving us the chance Of embracing and living in it. The place is created by people, who transform it, live in it, and feel it, people who one day may disappear. Place is personal: we all have a preferred , a beloved, a protecting, an place. Place is felt. And the landscape? The landscape surrounds the place and reveals these feelings. Our landscape is a long story, of all those who have lived there for years and generations. And of nature which has helped them , bothered them  sometimes, but which has let itself be formed in a subtle way. The story of many succeeding summers, autumns, winters and springs. Water has fallen and has dried, land has been ploughed and has produced , trees have grown, given fruits, and shade, and one day have fallen. Animals , stonewalls, bridges, people has passed by and people was settled. The landscape is a heritage we share . We change it, but the traces of wha  it has been, are staying. If we let them...When we look for these traces, and find them , they help us discover the spirit of the place. And thus, to understand our surroundings. But if we lose all these traces, the landscape will mislead us.
Further than a heritage, the landscape is also the future , the one we will share. As for all of us, naturally the landscape will change with time. It follows what we do, it responds to what we ask, or what we impose. Sometimes it matures and ages, others it gets younger or is renewed. Each change, in each place, counts. Even the smallest change. We have to be aware . That 's why looking is important, also another way of looking, brought to us by the artist.

Thank you very much, Catherine!!!!
