The Bad and the Good : a concept non adapted to the landscape mediation ?

It is easy to be sure of his own ideas. It usual to say what is good and what is bad. Every time one speek about good practices. However, it is not so simple.

Yesterday, I visited a large Pig farm, close to Brakne Hoby.

Often one says that pig production creates problems locally. Pollution, competition between farmers due to their individualism. What I saw was rather different . Farmers involved in a local development process, working with their neighbours, buying their cereals, sharing the harvest machineries, sloughtering a part of the production in the local sloughtery in the village, where the meat is sold each week... Here, this activity is going to be an opportunity for the river valley and contributes to maintain a part of the incomes in the local economy.

It is not a hasard if they have received yesterday the 2008 price of the Blekinge HushalningsSällskapet  society.

Today, we visited the Eriksberg natural reserve. An unbelievable area with many wild animals and romantic landscapes. A good thing for nature ... However is it pure nature ? When you discover between the old oaks,  many ruins of buildings and stone walls, built by generations of farmers who lived here before the place has been bought in 1939 by a rich man.

Of course natural processes are in work now for 60 years , of course the landcapes are wonderful and it is a great pleasure to see wild animals but we musn't forget that before,  it has been a hard work that has created the basis of this place. It is also because farmers were poor during the 19 th and the beginning of the 20th century (around 1000 inhabitants in this place) and some were rich enough to by these 1000 ha that this landscape has turned from a crowdy cultivated and grazed one to a wild appearance new one, pleasant for hunters and urbans vsitors but empty of permanent inhabitants.

What I can remember of these impressions is that nothing is bad , nothing is good in itself
It depends on the context and it needs to be evaluated in many dimensions, from an ecological point of view and also from a social one. And  the result can be different depending on who evaluates it, from a local or a global perspective for instance... That's why the Society needs more and more Landscape ambassadors that facilitate the discussions and create the conditions of a "wellfare controverse"
